ENFCO Transfer of Presidency from BCM to GACO

02 April 2025

ENFCO, the European Network for Compliance Officers (https://www.enfco.eu), wishes to  inform its members and the press that BCM – Berufsverband der Compliance Manager – is transferring the Presidency of this organisation to GACO – The Gibraltar Association of Compliance Officers – for the next 12 months as part of a yearly rotating presidency. GACO will therefore assume the presidency of ENFCO for the period of April 2025 to March 2026.

BCM is the initiator and one of the founding members of ENFCO, a network of not-for-profit associations for compliance professionals across Europe. The organisation facilitates cooperation and communication between participating associations and their incorporated professionals in the best spirit of a European community, in accordance with the Network’s mission goals.

Under the competent guidance of BCM, the Network was able to add 3 additional associations and to further consolidate its position as a go to network for compliance associations across Europe. BCM clearly made a great contribution to further professionalise the network with the decision for a permanent ENFCO office, and two important whitepapers were created and launched on the topics of “ESG & Compliance” and “AI & Compliance”, where compliance professionals in Europe contributed. Furthermore, members attend at least quarterly virtual meetings and once a year there is an in-person AGM in the home country of the presidency. In 2024 the yearly AGM was held in Berlin.

This year ENFCO has ambitious plans to add further key European compliance associations to its network.  A solid pipeline is already in place and soon we will be able to announce new joiners. It is actively working on whitepapers around topics such as Anti-Bribery & Corruption or the Positioning and Promotion of the Compliance Profession as a key enabler of profitable businesses. In November 2025 the AGM will take place in Gibraltar and will include a key event with high-profile international speakers to be announced in due course.

Dr. Gisa Ortwein, President of BCM, comments on the transfer of the ENFCO presidency as follows: “BCM wishes GACO a successful ENFCO presidency! It is remarkable what ENFCO as a network has achieved so far without any funding just with the power of its engaged member associations. The transition to GACO`s presidency is just another token of our successful collaboration among the associations we unite. We are glad to entrust the presidency of ENFCO to GACO for the next 12 months and for them to drive its development further.”

In relation to the transfer of the ENFCO presidency baton, Carlos M. Martins, GACO Chairperson, commented as follows: “We are very happy to take over the presidency of ENFCO for the next 12 months, to serve all its members in the best possible manner and continue the solid work laid down by BCM. It is a pleasure and at the same time a huge responsibility to assist ENFCO in safely navigating the compliance challenges that all our members are facing by actively exchanging knowledge, expertise, and best practice on how to tackle effectively common issues. We look forward to continue to closely work with all the ENFCO associations, the current ones and the new ones that will join us during the next 12 months.”
